Sewing Fun

Tuesday night's sewing class was really great and lots of fun. THANKS to our Enrichment leaders and for all who came. We look forward to finishing up those great aprons on February 12th at 6:30.

The Newest Member of our Branch

Brother and Sister Simmons moved from Cape Girardeau to Chaffee with their three year old son and are now a part of our Jackon Branch.  In addition to welcoming them to our branch, we want to announce the birth of their second child, a little girl born Tuesday night.  We look forward to getting to know them better.

Updates on our Great Youth

Ben Sirrine recently competed in a regional contest on Patriotism sponsored by the VFW.  HE took 2nd place out of 215 students who entered.  In November, he was awarded first place at the Jackson High School contest and was honored to deliver his winning Voice of Democracy speech to the Veterans at the annual Veterans assembly.  Keep up the good work Ben!

Melissa Smith is competing and showing her talents on the swim team for Cape Central High School.  Melissa has cut her times down and hopes to compete on a state level.  Swimming is a sport that takes many early morning practices and after school times as well.  Melissa still makes it to early morning seminary.  Good luck Melissa!

HFPE Sewing Activity

If you are interested in the sewing activity scheduled for Tuesday night, January 29th at 6:30 pm, please purchase one yard of fabric to bring with you.  Just a cotton calico fabric will be fine, although it could also be a denim or corduroy, anything that is not stretchy or silky will work.

The fabric should be 45" wide x 1 yard.  If you are a beginner, fabric comes in different widths, most commonly 45" and 60" wide.  There will be a sticker on the end of the fabric bolt that says how wide the fabric is.  You can buy either 45 or 60" width, but at least 45". If you have any questions, ask one of the fabric store or department employees or call Penny or me.

If you are willing to help guide beginning sewers during this class, please contact Sister Wheeler or Sister Jaimeson to let them know you are willing to help.

Enrichment Sewing Activity

We will be holding a beginner's sewing class on January 29th and February 12th at 6:30pm at the church. The class will be taught in two parts- hence the two dates. We will be learning how to cut out and sew a basic apron. This activity is perfect for anyone wanting to learn basic sewing skills. OR, plan to come if you just want to sew an apron or help others who may need one-on-one assistance. More information to come, see Sister Wheeler or Jaimeson for details.

Saturday's Service Shots

Thanks to those who came to help clean out the Elder's Apartment. Especially to Joanna who stayed by herself to finish up the carpet cleaning and to the Schoen's who have worked hard to move them into their home. And speaking of the Elders, don't forget that although there is no longer a dinner calendar, you CAN have them over for dinner. They would surely appreciate some home cooked meals.
